Today was the final day of the City of Vancouver's "ReStart" mural program. Over 2 weeks, 18 community members and youths participated in the discussion of the subject of graffiti, it's definition, impacts and rewards...with the design process resulting in the final production on this 78 foot mural today..Most of the group had little to no experience in using spraypaint, but with the help of myself and two other artist mentors (Girl23, ekons) the result was very satisfying and a less than pretty part of the neighborhood got a facelift.

The summer is almost here, and I am again taking submissions to paint murals in the Vancouver area.
Is your business and or property a target of graffiti artists and vandals?
The City of vancouver enforces a strict anti-graffiti by-law. If you have received a by-law notice to clean up graffiti, there is a support system in place to help counter this impact.
Murals have been shown to effectively reduce vandalism on private property as well as beatutify empty walls, which supportiung local culture and artists. typically a mural stands a 98% chance of being left alone over a blank wall. If your business suffers from graffiti impacts, you may be eligibile for a subsidized mural.
the city offers to supply materials and equipment while business owners and artist(ME) can negotiate a pay for labour arrangement.
you can visit the City of Vancouver program here, You can also call the Graffiti Hotline at 604-873-7161 for more information.
and as always contact me directly at trevor.goodwin@gmail.com to arrange a meeting to discuss mural concepts and costs.
I have worked within a similar prgram in Toronto with great success..

Eliscr and I collaborated on this super fun wall today. It was a totally freestyle type thing, we went at it with no plan and let the image emerge from our collaboration. We will go back and add a bit more to it tomorrow, but I had to drop these pics tonight, cause it's turning out so tuff!

At this point we ran out of time for the day, and resolved to return to tighten up the background, and give the piece some overall cohesion..

The final Product, next post!
